Every since I can remember, chocolate mousse has been my absolute favourite thing. To the point where it probably wasn’t very healthy, especially for a child. But I was in love, the smooth texture, the creamy decadence and the strong chocolate flavour. I was always on a hunt to find the best chocolate mousse, ordering it at every restaurant we went to. And despite my addiction, I was almost always left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. It was as if restaurants just couldn’t get it right, they would make it too rich, or not rich enough, they would add coffee or liquor (which in my opinion does not belong IN chocolate).
I think that is where or rather why I actually developed my love and devotion to cooking and baking. I was no longer going to be disappointed! I was determined to find the perfect chocolate mousse recipe that I could make whenever I wanted and how much I wanted. And I have found and altered quite a few amazing recipes (which I will share in coming months).
But unfortunately none of those recipes are exactly healthy and probably shouldn’t be made very often or consumed in such large quantities as which I LOVE to do. So my next hunt was to find an alternative to my cravings. And this is what I came up with: Vegan Avocado Chocolate Mousse.
Yes it is creamy! And no it does not taste like avocado’s. It is really good!! I was actually shocked. Not to brag, but I have become somewhat of a chocolate mousse connoisseur and to think that chocolate mousse made from avocado could in anyway live up to the standards I hold for the creamy dessert was not really something I had high hopes for. But it did! It really was delicious and creamy, and rich.
It is totally sugar free, vegan, low in calories and carbs. It is literally healthy enough to eat as lunch. It contains only avocado, almond milk, cocoa, vanilla extract, and agave nectar. Doesn’t exactly sound like it could turn into much right? Wrong! It is like magic.
My only note would be to myself and anyone who would like to try it, and that is to substitute the cocoa powder with 80% chocolate next time. So if you do happen to try this, please let me know how it turns out.
