What are Mini Beer Shots?
Mini Beer Shots are sweet and creamy cocktail shots that are layered to look like beer. And although it may look like a miniature shot of beer with a layer of frothy foam on top, it actually tastes nothing like beer and also contains no actual beer in it.
These novelty shots are fun and surprising to serve up to guests! And they are also incredibly easy to make as you only need two simple ingredients to make them.
And these shots are even better when you serve them in cute beer-shaped shot glasses! It is definitely a crowd-pleasing shot that is perfect for many holidays and special occasions - especially Saint Patrick's Day and Super Bowl Sunday.
And whether you slowly sip or shoot these little beer shots, they are fun, flavorful and delicious. And they look so good that no one will ever know how easy they are to put together.
So what does a mini beer shot taste like?
A mini beer shot actually tastes the opposite of real beer - it is sweet, rich, and creamy. A mini beer shot is a shot made with Licor 43, which is a sweet, floral, and citrusy vanilla liqueur and heavy cream.
These shots have a sweet and aromatic taste. With notes of vanilla, orange, and cinnamon from the liqueur and a velvety, creamy finish from the heavy cream. The creates a boozy vanilla ice cream or a spiked vanilla milkshake-flavored shot.

Ingredients and Notes
This layered shot recipe is easy to make with just two ingredients:
- Licor 43. A popular yellow, vanilla-flavored liqueur.
- Heavy cream. This thick-style cream mimics the frothy head of a beer and gives the shot a creamy finish.
What is Licor 43?
Licor 43, also known as Cuarenta Y Tres (which is “forty-three” in Spanish), is a bright yellow, sweet vanilla-flavored Spanish liqueur. It was created in 1946 by the Zamora family and it is produced in Cartagena in Spain.
The name of this popular liqueur comes from the 43 herbs and botanicals used to make it. The liqueur is made with a secret family recipe that creates a rich and nuanced flavor profile.
Licor 43 has a sweet, floral, citrus flavor that is complex but smooth to drink. It has a 31% alcohol content, so these shots have less alcohol than a standard shot of liquor which is typically around 40%.
Licor 43 is popular as a digestif after meals or mixed with coffee as a nightcap. The liqueur has also gained massive popularity around the world, and has become the best-selling Spanish liqueur worldwide!
How to make Mini Beer Shots
A layered Mini Beer Shot is easy to prepare and doesn't require any fancy bar equipment. You can whip up a batch in minutes!
Liqueurs are heavier than water or many other liquids because of their sugar content. And cream is lighter than water or alcohol because of its fat content. Therefore the cream layer easily floats on top of the sugary liqueur.
You can find a full, detailed recipe at the bottom of this post, or you can follow the step-by-step instructions below:
STEP ONE
These shots are best served chilled. So if you don't store your Licor 43 in the fridge, then first add the liqueur to a mixing glass filled with ice cubes. Stir together for 30 seconds to chill.
STEP TWO
Pour your chilled Licor 43 into shot glasses or mini beer glasses.
STEP THREE
Slowly pour the heavy cream over the back of a spoon to float it on top of the Licor 43. Enjoy immediately.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- We recommend using angled jiggers to make it easy to pour accurately into the small shot glasses.
- If you don't have any heavy cream, half and half will create the same look and feel. Just be sure to lightly whip the half and half as the added air will help it sit on top of the liqueur layer.
- You don't need to store Licor 43 in the refrigerator. But it is recommended to chill your bottle for at least 45 minutes before using it in this recipe.
- If you are having trouble creating defined layers, try whipping it lightly with a whisk or milk frother to make it even lighter and easier to make its own layer.
