What You Will Need To Make Chocolatey Espresso Brownies
This delicious coffee brownie recipe is made with just 10 ingredients that are pantry staples. They all come together to make thick fudgy brownies that every chocolate lover will enjoy. To make Chocolate Espresso Brownies you will need:
- Melted butter. Salted or unsalted is fine depending on preference.
- Brown and granulated sugar. The perfect combination for adding a touch of rich sweetness.
- Espresso. Adds that deep coffee flavor that enhances the chocolate flavor of the yummy brownies.
- Eggs. Large eggs at room temperature.
- All-purpose flour. Sifted.
- Baking powder. This allows the brownies to rise while baking.
- Cocoa powder. The star ingredient! So use the best quality you can.
- Chopped Chocolate. You can also use chocolate chips, but I prefer chunky chopped chocolate.
Does espresso powder make brownies taste like coffee?
In small amounts, espresso powder won't add a strong coffee flavor to your baked goods. It merely enhances the chocolate taste and makes it more intense and rich. If a lot of espressos powder is added to a brownie recipe, the coffee flavor may become more distinct. But it is also delicious when combined with chocolate brownies so have fun finding the amount that you like best!

- Mix sugar and butter. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the butter and sugars until lighter in color and fluffy.
- Add eggs and espresso. Pour in the shot of espresso and the eggs and continue to whisk together until fluffy.
- Add dry ingredients. Sift in the flour, baking powder, and cocoa powder. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to fold together until just combined.

- Add topping. Once the brownies have been baked and cooled, top them with the prepared chocolate ganache.

Tips & Tricks for Perfecting this brownie recipe:
- I recommend using high-quality chocolate, cocoa powder, and espresso for this recipe. Since there are only a few ingredients in this Chocolate Espresso Brownies recipe, each one really shines through.
- Be sure to not overbake your brownies as this will lose their fudgy-ness. They should not be like liquid when you take them out of the oven, but a little jiggle in the center is just fine. The espresso brownies will firm up as they cool.
- Allow your brownies to cool in the pan before slicing. This can take up to 2 hours, but it will give the best results.
- Don’t overmix the batter once the dry ingredients are added. Mix until it is all incorporated and no flour pockets remain.
