What is a Jack Daniels and Coke?
A Jack Daniels and Coke is a highly popular mixed cocktail drink. It is made by combining Tennessee whiskey and cola. This is a delicious combination of flavors that pair incredibly well together.
Whiskey and coke is a highball cocktail. This means that there is a larger proportion of mixer (in this case cola) to alcohol (in this case whiskey). This creates a deliciously balanced drink that is easy to make. But the key to mastering this cocktail is getting the balance just right!
Jack Daniels Whiskey
Jasper Newton Daniel, commonly known as Jack, introduces the world to Old No. 7, his signature charcoal-mellowed Tennessee Whiskey in 1866.
Since then, many variations and flavors of Jack Daniel's have been created and produced. And it remains one of the world's most popular and successful whiskey brands.
How to make Jack and Coke
You need to use the right ratio of soda to alcohol to get just the right flavor for this cocktail. Oftentimes, restaurants will mix up a version of this drink that’s too heavy on coke. This creates an unbalanced drink that is not the best whiskey-cola drinking experience.
We find that the best ratio for a Jack and Coke is 1:2 - one part Jack to two parts coke. This is the traditional whiskey-cola ratio, but you can adjust it according to personal preferences!
We've also got an easy to make Vodka and Coke recipe for something a little lighter.
Ingredients Needed
Whiskey
Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Whiskey is the traditional variety of whiskey used for this mixed drink. We highly recommend using this variety as it is simple and delicious. And the maple charcoal-mellowed whiskey is the perfect companion to the sweet fizzy cola.
Coke
Classic coca cola soda always works best for this cocktail recipe. But you can of course also use any other preferred cola or whatever you have on hand.
Recipe Tip: Whenever you make a mixed drink with a carbonated mixer (or "topper") it is best to add the soda at the end right before serving. This will allow the drinker to enjoy the most effervescent cocktail.
Lemon and Ice
These are technically optional ingredients but are highly recommended. They take the drink to the next level and add a refreshing touch that is unbeatable!
The acidity from the lemon cuts through the sweetness of the cola and adds a delicious brightness. Simply squeeze the juice from a lemon into the drink before serving. You can also use lime for a similar effect.
Step-By-Step Instructions
STEP ONE
Fill a serving glass with ice cubes.
STEP TWO

STEP FOUR
Enjoy as is, or optionally, add a squeeze of lemon and garnish with a lemon wedge or wheel.
Jack and Coke Recipe Tips
- This Jack and Coke recipe is for one serving. If you’re hosting a crowd, you can multiply the ingredients by the number of guests and make the drink in a punch bowl or jug.
- This mixed drink is best enjoyed as soon as it is made as it will lose some of its carbonation over time. So it is best to serve this drink soon after making it.
- The classic Whiskey Coke ratio is 2 to 1. But if you like a boozier drink feel free to add additional vodka or reduce the amount of coca-cola in each serving.
- You can serve this drink with crushed ice or whole ice. Just keep in mind that as the ice melts it will start to slightly dilute the drink.
