Ingredient Notes

  • Avocados - Use soft, ripe avocados for this mousse recipe for the best creamy texture.
  • Dark Chocolate - Use the best quality chocolate you can with a high cocoa content. I use 85% dark chocolate.
  • Cocoa Powder - Make sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder for this recipe so that the sweetness and sugar levels are controlled.
  • Vanilla Extract - Adds yummy flavor that enhances the taste of the chocolate mousse.
  • Coconut Cream - To add delicious creaminess and richness to the mousse. If you aren't a fan of coconut, you can use heavy whipping cream instead.
  • Maple Syrup -  Just a little sweetener is needed to balance the dark chocolate.

Suggested Toppings:

  • Roasted nuts
  • Fresh fruit and berries
  • Cocoa nibs
  • Coconut flakes
  • Sprigs of fresh mint
  • Whipped cream or whipped coconut cream
  • A dusting of cocoa powder

How to Make Avocado Chocolate Mousse

  • STEP ONE: Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and cook on medium stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Set aside and allow the chocolate to cool slightly.
  • STEP TWO: Place all the ingredients, including the melted chocolate in a high speed blender. Blend together until smooth, scraping down the sides every now and again.
  • STEP THREE: Pour the mousse into serving glasses and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy immediately or chill for later.

Storage

You can store the mousse in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or you can freeze the mousse for up to three months.

When you are ready to enjoy it, simply place it on the counter and allow it to defrost. Alternatively, you can enjoy it half-frozen and it will be ice-cream-like.
