I'm really looking forward to celebrating Heritage Day this week. Such a significant day - and who doesn't love a cheeky day off in the middle of the week! The thing I love most about Heritage Day is how it celebrates diversity AND unity. What a beautiful thing!
I'm such a tea lover. I drink rooibos every day. Multiple times a day. I absolutely love it and it is one of my favourite flavours to combine into creamy deserts. I think they make a frikkin great team! And this layered Rooibos & Vanilla Panna Cotta is my proof.
Panna Cotta with rooibos
Whipping up a panna cotta is a lot easier than most people think. And once again, Kitchen Inspire's products made making these Rooibos & Vanilla Panna Cottas even easier. Panna cotta is such a simple dessert and one that never disappoints - you can't go wrong guys!
A day celebrating South African culture and my heritage is incomplete without Rooibos. It is a flavour that I grew up with and has been a part of my daily life nearly all my life.
So although I know I will definitely be drinking some Rooibos tea this Heritage Day, I thought it would be fun to create a dessert with its delicious flavour too. And oh boy, was I not disappointed! These Rooibos & Vanilla Panna Cottas are beyond delish and are quick and easy enough to whip up midweek.

Rooibos & Vanilla Panna Cotta
Equipment
- 1 small saucepan
- 4 serving dishes
Ingredients
Vanilla Layer
- 1 ¼ cup cream
- 1 teaspoon gelatin
- ¼ cup cold water
- 2 tablespoon honey
- ½ vanilla pod
Rooibos Layer
- 1 ¼ cup cream
- 1 teaspoon gelatin
- ¼ cup cold water
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 2 rooibos teabags
Instructions
Vanilla Layer
- In a saucepan, heat up the cream, honey, and vanilla.
- In a small bowl, combine the gelatin and cold water and allow to bloom.
- Once the cream mixture has reached a boil, remove from heat and add the bloomed gelatin.
- Whisk together and pour into four ramekins or glasses.
- Refrigerate and allow to completely set before adding the rooibos layer - should take about four hours.
Rooibos Layer
- In a saucepan, heat up the cream and honey.
- Add the rooibos teabags and allow to steep for 5 minutes over a gentle simmer.
- In a small bowl, combine the gelatin and cold water and allow to bloom.
- Once the rooibos has finished steeping, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the bloomed gelatin.
- Whisk together and pour over the set vanilla Panna Cotta layer.
- Refrigerate and allow to set before enjoying!
