One of my favourite things to do, is to find healthy alternatives to delicious things. The reason is obviously because we are all striving to be healthy. But also because most of the healthy products one finds in stores or at restaurants often taste more like cardboard than anything else. I hate that, because it gives healthy foods a bad rep, and the thing is that it is actually incredibly easy to make something that tastes delicious but that is good for you. I want people to see that eating healthily should never be torture, and it most certainly should never mean that you have to skip dessert ;).
Up until now, my two ultimate favourite healthy desserts have been the Vegan Cranberry Cheesecake and the Vegan Salted Caramel. These guys are heavenly and whether you are vegan or not, they are still incredibly delicious and also super healthy. Both are refined sugar free and dairy free. Today I made a Date Paste which is definitely one of my new must have items to keep in my fridge. You can use it as a sugar replacement in desserts or you can do I do and eat it on your toast with some pecan nuts sprinkled on top.
Today is another “you can make it in your NutriBullet” recipe, and I know it’s starting to seem like it is the only thing I use. But seriously, I just love recipes that require barely any work but that are just as delicious as any elaborate dessert.
To make this delicious and healthy sugar alternative, all you have do is pour 1 cup of hot water over 2 cups of dates and allow them to soak for about 5-10min. Once the dates are slightly soaked, simply chuck it all into your NutriBullet (or any other blender) and blend on high until smooth. You will have to stop every now and then to scrape down the sides but it goes so quickly. There you have it Date Paste -A Healthy Sugar Alternative. Now you can simply store in a jar in your fridge for up to 2 weeks or a awesome tip I came across, is to place a little date paste into ice-cube trays and freeze it for whenever you need it.
